Can I Reduce My Child Support Payments?

CHILD SUPPORT ANALYSIS

Child Support is subject to change. Some circumstances which might result in a reduction, suspension or termination of support are set forth in the following questions:

  1. A REDUCTION IN YOUR INCOME
Have you lost your job or experienced a substantial reduction in your income?
(Note: The court may disregard a reduction in income which is the result of your own voluntary actions, such as quitting a high-paying job to take a lesser-paying job or to attend school.)
  2. ONE OF YOUR CHILDREN BECOMES EMANCIPATED
Is your child support for more than one child stated as a single amount (as opposed to “per child”) and one of your children is 21 or “emancipated”?
  3. COLLEGE
Do you have a child that attends college and lives away from the home of the custodial parent? (Note: Such a circumstance may result in a suspension or reduction of support.)

If the answer to any of these questions is YES, contact Chinn & Associates or other attorneys regarding your possible right to a modification.
